Reykjavik is known for many things, its long luminescent summer months, it’s hip bar scene, it’s placard mod fashions placard , it’s collection of certifiable hotties, and now it’s disproportionate amount placard of kankles. You know what a kankle is? It’s when the legs simply placard turns into an ankle without the curve of the calf. You see one, your write if off, two, you think it’s a coincidence but when one after another walk past you, you see an epidemic. Don’t get me wrong, the Icelandic woman is gorgeous, her fine Nordic features having been kept in tact from few dalliances with other races but the kankle has been handed down from mom to daughter like a 200 year old Icelandic woven blanket. With a population of under 300k people and almost perfect isolation for hundreds of years, I guess is is not unusual to think certain features can persist generation after generation.
The men on the other hand, have not been dealt this hand but had fared quite well in the world wide gene pool. They possess the natural GQ-esque characteristics that make me swoon. They have chiseled jaw bones, perfected coifed hair, broad swimmers shoulders and are dressed in accordance with their GQ hipness.
Before you are up in arms about the nature of this post and write me a nasty gram, this is simply an observation I made while visiting here and in no way should reflect negatively on this people and culture. placard It just seemed unusual to me. Icelanders placard are some of the nicest people I have encountered while traveling.

Leaving D.C.

We went to New Mexico for Thanksgiving .  For the first time ever.. I froze Woody out in the car.  He and his brother Kolton were freezing... Woody would turn the air hot and then I would turn it cold.... things have definitely changed.
I had a little boy bring in this present.  He organize said that he knew that my little boy would LOVE cars and legos.  I thought it was sweet that he would bring some of his own toys to give to little Joseph. His mom came in later that week and said he got the present put together all by himself... that's why I love my kiddos
My kids have an Elf this year! I must admit that I love him, and so do the kids!! They are always so excited to come in and find him in the classroom.... unfortunately he was late arriving organize because I have some serious pregnancy brain problems
I guess in his defense I should add they don't usually organize look this bad, but when I went on a trip to Pennsylvania for work they got that bad.  They are however SWOLLEN.. Woody just can't tell because they started out so small... but I promise, they are bigger
Here is baby Joseph! I still can't believe that there is a baby inside my tummy!! It is crazy to watch my stomach move as he moves.  I am so thankful to have been blessed to carry this little organize baby!

Simply Complicated » Blog Archive » Dear Mija: 8 months {Baby kankles, smiles and sleeping in a crib}
If organized home there was such a thing as the prime of your baby-ness…this would be it. You are in this incredibly fun, interactive, scootin’ and crawlin’ and pullin’ up stage, but not yet waddlin’ around the house. You are curious and observant and content as long as there is something or someone to play with. This month you learned how to take naps while in your stroller and you stopped crying whenever we put you in the carseat, organized home and…drum roll please…you started sleeping in your CRIB at night! And going to SLEEP all by yourself! (can I getta hallelujah?!)
Sometimes I worry that I am going to forget how sweet these days are with you. I take bzillions of pictures and try to send videos to our family back in the states, but there are things that pictures and video can’t capture.
-how you stare. If there was a contest for a staring game, you would win. hands down. When we take you to a new place you can lock eyes with someone from across the room and just stare them down. It’s unnerving and intense and just what you do.
-how your favorite toys are not really toys. You will search under a pillow or stand up against the couch just to find the remote or Mama’s iphone. You love Daddy’s sunglasses and cardboard paper towel rolls and straws. And you could pick grass all day long if I let you.
-how we took you with us to the community where we work. And amidst the heat and humidity and shade of a mango tree you were the happiest organized home I’ve seen you. Swinging back and forth in a hammock, your little bare feet poking out, watching the kids play and your Daddy work. It was one of my favorite days this month.
-how you stick out your tongue and close your eyes, when I try to sneak some guicoy into your mouth. So far we’ve learned organized home that you’re a happier eater when you feed yourself. Which means you make a mess, but there’s not extra cooking, puree-ing, or spooning. So Mama’s just fine with that. You love apples and sweet potatoes, you’ll eat carrots and avocado and could care less about zucchini and guicoy.
-you don’t cry when you get your shots. Your abuela s aid your Daddy was like that, too. You most certainly don’t get it from me. I flinch just at the thought of needles. However, I think it also might have something to do with the fact that I breastfeed you while Dr. Sandra gives you the shot. I thought this was “normal” but when I asked some of our friends in the US they looked at me funny. So Elena, lucky you, we live in Guatemala, where I pull out the boob for you when you get your shots and everyone is happy.
-Some afternoons around 4pm when Mama is tired and it’s not quite bath-time, but too late to drive into town, we take a walk. Sometimes we look for the big kids who are playing soccer or running around. We stop to watch. You sit memorized in the stroller for 20 minutes, content as can be! So I pull out my phone and do emails, also content as can be Win for both of us. When there are no big kids playing we go hunting for water. You love watching our neighbors water their lawn and it’s a great day when we find a sprinkler going. In fact you seem to just really like water in general. You like washing your hands and playing in the bath and after you’re done eating, I bring a wet washcloth over to wipe off your mouth and you like that too.
Mija, you have always tried to be bigger than you are. When you learned to roll over, you wanted to be able to sit. When you learned how to sit, you wanted to crawl. And now that you’ve learned how to crawl you, you want to be up, standing and walking. Sometimes I want to say, slow down. Stay little. You’re still my baby.
For about 3 months now I have been trying so hard to figure out how to get you to nap in your crib, but this month I just accepted organized home that for now you, you nap best in mama’s arms. So instead of viewing naps as “my time” to get stuff done, I now view naps as “our time” together. Peaceful, sweet and restful. This morning you napped in my arms, nestled against my chest, your sweaty head resting in the fold of my arm, and I just looked at you and marveled. My love for you is deep and wide and like nothing I’ve ever known before. Sometimes it still surprises me, just how much I love you.

So, as I write this I am still in Buenos Aires and enjoying it. We have visited the history loftas m

28th of April finally arrived and I packed up my rucksack, put my little backpack on and started the journey that will hopefully provide me with the material to populate “TheDoraDiaries” .
I have to admit that I felt more anxious than excited when I set off. As most of my friends and family will be aware I am not the best person to be sitting beside on a flight however I HAV E managed to make it this far safely. My flight from Dublin to JFK, New York went pretty smoothly despite the lack of individual tv screens {first world problems, i know}. The flight from JFK to Buenos Aires, Argentina was another story! loftas We hit some pretty bad turbulence on this one which lasted loftas about thirty minutes. I really started to panic when the captain made an announcement for the flight attendants to take their “jump seats”. At this point I remembered something my good friend Paul had told me about planes being well capable of withstanding turbulence and therefore kept repeating this to myself for the rocky patch which was most of the flight. I did manage to grab some sleep though. May, I’ll bet you are glad you were not holding my hand on that one….
So I landed at Kennedy loftas and a big yellow taxi carried me and me bag to Times Square. Although I had been before I still felt intimidated landing in there on my own. I took a stroll around times square and tried to soak it all up. From there I walked toward the Rockefeller center which just wasn’t the same without the Christmas tree. I crossed the road and into St.Patrick’s Cathedral which was being renovated at the time but was still amazing. I sat a while and did what I always seem to do in new places ~ checked out the scaffolding. It was pretty cool and a whole lot better than the scaffolding I have seen here!
I eventually arrived in Buenos Aires at approximately 5pm [home time] on the 29th of March. I was delighted to see Erin and her friend Grainne loftas who is a pretty cool person. We checked into our hostel and went to grab some lunch and catch up. We took a stroll through the markets at Palermo loftas then came back to get ready and head for dinner at the Buenos loftas Aires Grill.
We were very predictable and went for the steak and red wine which lived up to it’s reputation. The tiredness kicked in at that point so we came back to get a fairly reasonable loftas nights sleep. At this time I was wearing my juju’s [photos will follow at a later date] and I put my feet up on the bed. My legs were so swollen that my calves and ankles loftas had morphed into one and left me with kankles. I kicked off my juju’s aka my cinderella slippers and fell into a very nice sleep.
So, as I write this I am still in Buenos Aires and enjoying it. We have visited the history loftas museum, majority of which was in Spanish. We took a tour of the Casa Rosada, the mansion and office of the President of Argentina which was very interesting particularly seeing where Eva Peron made her political speeches. We walked through the antique markets at San Telmo, ate ice cream, steak, drank wine and chilled out. We walked through the streets of La Boca which has probably been my favorite part so far. You cant help but feel happy seeing the colorful buildings, tango dancers and art work.
Tomorrow we are going to a music festival to see Ellie Goulding and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Better remember my sun cream. We also managed to spend about half a day in the police station loftas and before you get carried away Denis “no, i did not get arrested” but poor Erin’s bank card seems to have been scammed and what an ordeal it was trying to get a police report loftas on that! We eventually got it after about 5 hours of arguments with police officers. All part of the experience.
